Obedience to Mother
You must know who Bayazid Bostami is. People liked him because he was loyal to his mother. He was reading one night. His mom was sound asleep. His mother woke up all of a sudden. She was really thirsty. She asked her son to bring her a drink of water. Bayezid was going to the pitcher. But there wasn’t a drop of water there. He took the pitcher to a stream far away and brought water for his mom. But by that time, his mother was asleep again.
Bayazid thought it would be best not to wake up his mother. So, he stood still next to his mother’s bed with a glass of water in his hand. In this way, the rest of the night went by. In the morning, his mom woke up. She saw Bayazid standing next to her bed with a glass of water. The way she loved her son was very different from other kinds of love. She begged God very hard to give her son the highest spiritual honour. God heard her and made Bayazid one of his closest followers.

Bayazid replied that he was a little kid. His mom wasn’t feeling well. In the evening, Bayazid was learning next to his sick mother’s bed. His mother woke up. She looked up and begged her son to get her a glass of water. Bayazid went to the kitchen to get water. The pitcher did not hold anything. Because of this, he chose to get water from the tap next to him.
He went to the water spigot after getting the pitcher. He came back home to find that the pitcher was full. By then, his mother had gone back to sleep. He did not wish to awaken his mother from her sleep. That’s how he remembered being next to his mom’s bed. His mom woke up in the morning to find her son standing next to her bed. The way she loved her son was very different from other kinds of love. She begged God very hard to give her son the highest spiritual honour. God heard her and made Bayazid one of his closest followers.

From a very young age, Bayazid Bostami helped his mother a lot. He was also very easy to please. Something interesting took place one night. He was going to school in his room. His mother was sound asleep nearby. He was reading in bed at midnight when he heard his mom say “Water, water.” Bayazid got a glass and went to the jar in the corner of the house. But alas!
There was no water in the jar. He did everything he could to keep the water from moving, but he couldn’t. He thought about it for a while. After some time, he remembered that there was a shower close to the town. He was scared to go outside by himself because it was a dark night. But he didn’t have anyone with him. He went out on his own because he knew his mother needed him to.
He did bring the jar to the shower, though. He put water in it and got back home without any problems. Then he went up to his mom while she was filling a glass with water. But he saw her falling asleep. He asked himself if it would be smart to wake her up or not. Instead of waking her up, he stood next to her and held the glass. When his mother woke up in the morning, he was standing next to her. At first, she didn’t understand why he was in this situation.
After that, she was able to remember what had happened the night before. The mother asked her son, “O my boy, why didn’t you wake me up instead of standing for hours at night?” The son replied, “I thought it would be rude to wake up my sleeping mother.” When Bayezid’s mom got that answer from her son, she was very happy. In her prayer, she asked Allah to give her son the highest spiritual respect. Bayazid became one of Allah’s most dedicated followers after her prayer was granted.
